Here at Moto-Lita we make our living creating timeless works of automotive steering wheel art and, unsurprisingly, we live, sleep and dream about cars. So perhaps it’s not surprising that we also love a good car movie, where cars are the real stars and we get a glimpse back to a time when our favourite classic cars were just ‘cars’.
Here is a quick Top 5 list of some of our favourites - why not share yours?
The Italian Job - this absolute classic of a heist movie was really all about the Mini in its 1960s heyday. Michael Caine, Benny Hill, car stunts galore - what’s not to love? Well, except the destruction of a beautiful Aston Martin DB4 Volante (complete with Moto-Lita wheel!), two pretty Jaguar E-Types, the uniquely specced Lamborghini Miura, loads of sweet Minis, the back doors of a security van. Well, not them so much… https://youtu.be/RyMp9QEa5eI?si=Z7tTeUHLSGaxaZr_
Gone in 60 seconds - Nicholas Cage at his finest and some of the greatest cars ever built. The Eleanor chase scene, along with the brilliant Delroy Lindo chasing in a sweet BMW E39 540i will live with us for years to come! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNTey5zbc8Q
Ronin - Robert De Niro and Jean Reno star in this action packed thriller with more than one superb car chase - perfection! And we love that they ignored supercars and went for the more mundane Peugeot 406 chasing a BMW E34 5-series. Mercedes 450 SEL chasing a Peugeot 605 and a Citroën XM being chased by an Audi S8. The prospect of driving on French roads was never quite the same after this film! youtube.com/watch?v=JOReoIMEvsM
Baby Driver - the opening chase scene is a cinematic and driving masterclass showcasing the fantastic Subaru WRX. We reckon this is as close as you will get to real-life GTA! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XMuUVw7TOM
Goldfinger - well, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to include a fabulous DB5, (including a Moto-Lita steering wheel, naturally!), vying with a Ford Mustang and being chased by ninja-style guards in three lovely Mercedes W121 190s. The director also took the opportunity to introduce some American metal to Bond fans, including a Chevrolet Impala, Lincoln Continental, Ford Falcon Ranchero and a huge Ford Country Squire station wagon. Oh and don’t forget Goldfinger’s iconic Rolls Royce Phantom III! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RdK51Igeqc
